Between a Daniel and a Judas Iscariot.

Text: Daniel 6:10 / Mathew 27:3 – 7

Aim: For Christians to treasure God’s love more than worldly gains.

INTRODUCTION:

Our texts highlight the choices of two men – Daniel and Judas Iscariot. Daniel had grown to become governor of governors in the land of slavery (Babylon). This was largely due to his unfeigned faith in God. A law was made that was aimed at victimizing him if he chose to continue his walk with God.

Judas Iscariot was the treasurer among the disciples of Jesus Christ. He betrayed his Master when he decided to bargain with the Chief priest and elder for thirty (30) pieces of Silver. He realized too late that he could not undo what he has done and hanged himself.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

1. What important decisions did Daniel make that helped his life? Daniel 1:8; 6:4, 5, 10 II Cor: 6:14 – 18 – To be undefiled (holy), separate, faithful, obedient, to God.
2. How was Judas Iscariot different from Daniel? Matt 26: 14 – 16, 24; 27:3-5, I Tim 6:10, Psm 1:4 – 6; 14-19 (hypocritical, unfaithful, greedy, love for money, wicked, ashamed.
3. Discuss the outcome of their decisions Daniel 6:22/ Matt 27:3-5; Psm. 1:3, 4, 6 (Prosperity, promotion, deliverance/regret, death.
4. What decisions must you take to succeed? Deut 30:19, 20 Prov. 12:26 (choose life, obey God, parents, teachers, good friends etc).

Here were two men who at different times walked with God. The decisions they took however distanced them one from the other.

Daniel refused to be influenced and intimidated. He chose to keep faith with God.
Judas on the other hand, abused the grace of God. Though he dined with the Master; he was lured by greed and love of money to fulfill the negative side of the scripture. Daniel gained everything but Judas lost all.

MEMORY VERSE: Matt 16:25, 26

“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it, for what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?’’
