Theme: Decision Making Topic: Our Decisions and the Nation Text: I Samuel 8: 1-20 Aim: To enable every believer know that personal and group decisions affect the Well-being of a nation. INTRODUCTION Our text reveals how the decision of two young men and that of the elders of Israel led to the demand for a King. Before this time, Israel had existed as a theocratic nation. God was their maker and King. The priest or seer acted as God’s Chief Minister. He acted as intermediary between God and Israel. Samuel acted in this capacity until his sons (Joel and Abijah) became judges. The decision to walk contrary to the way of their father (Samuel) and the elders’ decision to be like other nations altered the course of history for the Israelite nation.
