2019: No Vacancy for Urhobo Governor in Delta State- Ex-Deputy Gov, Amos Utuama

Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN  has advised Urhobo indigenes dreaming of producing Urhobo governor in Delta State in 2019  to jettison the dream  stating  that there is no vacancy for Urhobo governor in 2019.

Utuama who made the statement during the People Democratic Party, PDP Delta Central Senatorial District, victory reception held yesterday at Oghara-Township stadium, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area assured Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi  Okowa that  come 2019; the Urhobo nation will not produce a governorship candidate to challenge him, adding that the Urhobo people are happy  with his administration and would want him to complete his eight years tenure.

Utuama stated further, that with the level of Urhobo participation in Okowa’s government and the developmental projects so far brought to the Delta Central Senatorial District, the Urhobo people would continue to support him and the PDP come 2019, because the Urhobos have no other party than the PDP.

Speaking earlier in the occasion Okowa had described his victory in the April 11 2015 governorship election in some part of Delta Central Senatorial District, as his personal effort, nothing that the rivalry amongst PDP leaders and major stakeholders would have cost the party victory, but for his personal effort in reaching out to the people.

According to him, “ my victory in the election in Delta Central was personal, however my first major appointment went to an Urhobo, which is the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.”

While emphasizing the need for the party leaders and stakeholders to be united ahead of 2019 election, the Governor added that he and some leaders of the party in the state are working very hard to re-position the party in Delta State, considering the fact that the PDP is now the opposition party at the center.

He therefore, urged party leaders to work in unity in the build up to the up coming congresses, stressing that the era where only one leader will nominate all the delegate for congress election is over, stating that all party leaders should be concern and limit their influence to their wards, while consulting other stakeholders’ in the LGA.
